has worked as a Principal Lecturer in Sign Language Interpreting at Humak University of Applied Sciences until 2017. Currently she works as the Manager of Research in a non-profit coaching association Silta.


Her research areas have included e.g. the needs for interpreter services among the youth with cochlear implant (2011–2012), learning outcomes in the syllabus of Finnish Sign Language in basic education and studies on demographics and accessibility among the deaf people in Albania (2015–2016). Her PhD project, completed in 2004 focused on the emergence and development of the name sign system in the community of Sign Language users in Finland.

Päivi Rainó is co-author of two studies, but is not presenting at the conference.
